Personal Training
Geoff can provide personal training and coaching to help you make small changes so that you become healthier, fitter and more flexible
My Approach to Personal Training:
You can be more active, fitter, and healthier while still being yourself and the process can be fun!
That's why I don't try to create a new you – you should love yourself and your miraculous body no matter what condition you are in. I don't judge nor try to change your lifestyle or increase your discipline, let alone turn you into a ‘fitness fanatic'.
Whether you just want to get healthier, lose some weight, or are already a keen athlete who wants to improve performance I can suggest a series of minor adjustments which will work for you. I achieve this by giving you knowledge, great technique and encouragement to enable you to make those small changes that will stay with you. As a result, general daily activity, exercise for fitness, strength training, stretching and mobilisation techniques, whilst eating a healthy balanced diet, becomes an easy and enjoyable normal part of your life.
The ‘f word’ – fun, fun, fun.
Activity and exercise can come in many forms that can provide amazing benefits physically, mentally and spiritually.
From the sheer joy of dancing to walking or cycling in the beautiful countryside, the peace of mind and tranquillity created in a Tai Chi or Yoga class, the comradeship gained from participating in team sports, the satisfaction of gardening or building something new, the thrill of surfing and a myriad of other water sports are all just a few examples of what you can choose to become more active which in turn is likely to help make your life healthier and happier.
Any work we may do in the gym will be varied, up tempo and challenging. Your sense of achievement when you hit your goals will be strong.
A unique approach tailored for you and your needs!
I want to understand in detail any client, agree objectives that you really want to deliver and then work out a precise way of achieving great results by taking a series of small steps. My approach is holistic and I use motivational coaching to provide the right solutions for you.
I can give you a MOT by checking your biomechanics, posture, cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, eating habits, your general state of health and lifestyle balance. This allows us to agree suitable markers that can be tracked over a period of weeks and months so that you can see how far you have progressed.
I also bring to the table my knowledge as a sports massage practitioner and Tai Chi instructor to help resolve injuries, postural issues and speed up the repair process. If you sign up for both training and massage (or any form of healing) you really can make some amazing progress. This can help anyone from a beginner to an elite athlete in order to achieve improved performance.
Why would someone want to employ a Personal Trainer?
There are countless benefits to working out with a personal trainer. People of any age and experience level can see better results and live a healthier lifestyle. A personal trainer will help create a unique workout plan to fit your individual needs and goals, and can accommodate an injury or other obstacle that might otherwise prevent you from exercising.
There are a number of reasons and potential benefits of working with a personal trainer, varying from person to person, which could include the following:
Improved outcomes, include the following:
1. Faster and better results
Having a personal trainer to guide you through your fitness routine will help make sure you are spending time on the proper types of exercise. If you only have a limited amount of time to work out, a personal trainer will make sure you get the best results possible for the amount of time that you put it.
2. Achievable fat loss and muscle gain
Most people have multiple goals when working out, the most common being fat loss and muscle gain. It’s often hard to find the right balance between these two, and a personal trainer can help you find the right exercises to achieve all of your goals.
3. Reduced chance of injury
A personal trainer will teach you the proper form and technique to use during your workout so you can stay safe and injury-free.
4. Establishes a lifetime exercise habit
A personal trainer can help you find ways to make healthy living and exercise a priority in your life. They can help you overcome obstacles that might prevent you from exercising, and help you set many small, achievable goals.
5. Overcome plateaus
When you hit a plateau in your exercise routine, it can be hard to push through and stay motivated. A personal trainer can help you understand why you hit a plateau and find ways for you to work through it and see more results.
How is this achieved?
Instruction – Technique is everything!
Motivation
For some it is difficult to get started let alone maintain an ongoing routine when you exercise on your own. Regular sessions with a personal trainer should help you break that initial inertia and enhance your motivation to continue. Knowing that you'll meet with your trainer soon will motivate you during workouts even when you are training alone. A good trainer will get you working hard, out of your comfort zone whilst keeping it fun.
Accountability
Another common problem is lack of commitment to a regular exercise program. When you exercise on your own, it is easier to skip a session here and there or fall off the wagon completely since there's no one to hold you accountable for your actions. When you work with a trainer, he keeps you accountable, making it more likely that you'll stick with your training program.
Goal Achievement
A personal trainer helps you define your fitness goals, taking into account your current fitness level and an agreed approach to what you want to achieve. While you may have some idea of the goals you want to set, a professional is able to help you break them down into smaller goals that are specific, measurable, time-related and realistic.
Personalised Workout
Personal trainers create a specific workout plan just for you based on what you want to achieve whether that is weight loss, increased strength and muscle size or improved fitness. The personalised plan typically gives you better results than a general workout plan.
Variety
An experienced trainer teaches you a variety of exercise methods, which can keep you from getting bored. Also, if a specific exercise does not work for you, the trainer can change it to one that suits you better and provides the same physical benefits. Trainers also help you to make adjustments as your fitness level improves to ensure continued progress.
Efficiency
A professional personal trainer is able to make the most of your workout time, which increases the efficiency of your exercise program. This is especially beneficial when you have a limited amount of time to exercise.
Other Benefits of working with a Personal Trainer include:
1. It’s Educational - good for you physically and mentally
2. They help you achieve specific goals such as training for an event
3. Can help with nutrition and lifestyle choices
4. A good PT can act as an unofficial therapist
5. Training can help your mental health too!
6. It can be challenging, bringing you out of your comfort zone so you achieve great results
